It's almost time for the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

The fifth largest tennis tournament takes place March 5-18. That means Indian Wells residents can receive Resident's Day tickets, for March 8, plus additional tickets to other tournament dates.

The tennis ticket request form goes live at 8:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 30, at www.cityofindianwells.org. You must have APN# ready from your valid IW Property Owner ID card.

Starting Tues., Feb. 21, tickets will be available for pick-up at City Hall during normal business hours. Orders online will only be accepted.

It was a close call for American Cab, the largest cab service in the Coachella Valley. The cab company could have been shut down Wednesday due to a dispute over its ownership change but a new interim attorney concluded American Cab did not violate any rules.

"It's reassuring that it's water under the bridge now because there are 85 of us who were at risk of losing our jobs," said Peter Kurzon, a cab driver.

But for several months, Kurzon and another 80 plus employees at American Cab were fearful of losing their jobs.
